A small, pale isopod with a spiky, pineapple-textured shell — one of the drier-loving species on the list rather than a tropical one.
Care notes
Cristarmadillidium muricatum (native to Spain, also sold as "Spikey Pineapple") wants a mostly dry, well-ventilated enclosure rather than the high humidity most of the catalog needs — 40–50% RH and 68–79°F, with only about a sixth of the space kept lightly damp. Give 4–5cm of substrate and cork bark for daytime cover. Base the diet on rotting hardwood and leaf litter with generous calcium (limestone, cuttlebone, or eggshell). Broods are small, roughly 6–12 mancae, so colonies build slowly and want minimal disturbance while establishing.
