RYZA species care

South/Yellow Dot

Porcellio ornatus

A large Spanish Porcellio with yellow markings, running drier than most beginner isopods.

Care notes

Porcellio ornatus is a Mediterranean species that runs drier than most isopods — keep roughly 45–60% RH with a small humid retreat rather than a broad damp zone, and prioritize strong ventilation. Its a large, active species that benefits from protein and calcium to avoid cannibalism in tight quarters. A starter group takes a few months to build a visible population.
