Understanding the crew
Isopods and springtails are terrestrial arthropods that flourish in moist habitats. In a bioactive enclosure, they help process organic waste and support a healthier substrate.
Building the habitat
Use a moisture gradient rather than soaking the whole enclosure. Add leaf litter, cork bark or wood for cover, and a suitable substrate that stays breathable.
Feeding and maintenance
Offer leaf litter as the foundation, then small supplementary feedings. Remove excess food before it molds and monitor moisture so the habitat never dries out completely.
Choosing cultures
Match the culture to the enclosure’s humidity and temperature. Read the species guide before setting up, then give a new colony a calm, stable start.
